What is Informational Text?? Informational text is often used interchangeably with nonfiction; however the two terms are not synonymous. All informational text should be considered nonfiction; however not all nonfiction is informational text. Consider biographies, memoirs, diaries, how-to manuals, etc. While these are considered nonfiction, they are typically not considered informational text. Many of the following offerings; however, are often considered informational text or a means of accessing such text: (nonfiction) books/eBooks, textbooks, essays, speeches, historical documents, newspapers, magazines, academic/professional journals, government documents, scientific reports, technical accounts, brochures, and more.
